Shabana has created several different lines of jewellery titled “Wearable Art” for the simple fact that each piece has been specially handcrafted and created into a mini artwork for you to wear in the form of necklaces, earrings and brooches. Each piece is a unique artwork created by the artist making no two pieces the same. Following through in a lot of the artists work, especially in the silver etched line is the common similarity of script. Selected pieces are enscripted with segments of a story taken from the artist’s subconscious, then scattered throughout the artists work. Unreadable to the common eye, you will however find the occasional word, unleashing just a hint of the artist’s enigma to the viewer.
The silver etched line was formed through Shabana’s knowledge and skills at printmaking where a metal plate is etched into and the image transferred to paper with inks. This line is just that, an artwork etched onto the plate but then using the plate as the artwork instead of transferring the image. Each plate is sealed with a liquid glass keeping the image set forever.
The clay/resin art line has been created through previous works of art by Shabana Jacobson. The pieces have been photoshopped into mini works and layered in resin on clay plates. Images include “Tree”- a photograph manipulated in photoshop, “Amy”- a drawing on paper of a girl, “life drawing”- a sketch done of a life model and “Lost Love”- a photo etched print.
The photo series comes from a collection of photographs taken by Shabana Jacobson titled “Los Calles y Gente de Centro y Sudamerica” (The Streets and People of Central and Sth America ) from a recent year long journey through Latin America photographing the streets, people and life for inspiration. A selection of the original and manipulated photos have been used here as a new range of jewellery, called the photo pic line, as well as some sketches of little characters done along the way and also created into a jewellery line, called little mushroom-men characters.
Other jewellery by Shabana includes a range of miscellaneous clay lines where only a small number are ever made and are constantly changing. There is a special link between all of Shabana’s works from her prints, paintings, and drawings to her photography , sculpture and jewellery making them uniquely recognisable as one of a kind.
